FLAGSHIP SUSAN CONSTANT
THE FLAGSHIP – SUSAN CONSTANT 34 ½” W X 44 ½”L On December 20, 1606, three English ships set sail from London. They carried a total of 144 men and boys, 104 of whom would establish the first permanent English settlement in America at Jamestown. The largest of these three ships was the Susan Constant, commanded by Captain Christopher Newport. The 400th anniversary of this event was commemorated in 2007. This wall quilt is dedicated to that anniversary. A sail boat with three masts highlights this 34 1/2” W x 44 1/2” L wall quilt. The background waves and Mariner’s Compass are paper pieced, but can be modified to your favorite technique. The appliqué pieces are done with the fusible technique. The wonderful quilting is explained inside.
